Every student leader involved with SODA has two advisors: a member of the Community Outreach Team at their OPO and a member of SODA's Student Outreach Team.
How SODA and OPOs Stay in Touch
There are two main ways students get involved with SODA:
- Hosting a one-off event
- Leading a chapter
After receiving an eligibility survey, SODA reaches out to the OPO's Community Outreach Team to ensure the student and OPO are connected. After receiving the chapter application or event interest, and upon approving the chapter or approving the event, SODA also notifies the OPO.
Supporting Students
We encourage OPOs to check in with their chapters at least twice per semester, and we encourage student leaders to do the same. Here are sample questions to ask when checking in:
- What is going well?
- What barriers are you facing?
- What are your goals for the upcoming months?
- Do you want to schedule training for new volunteers on your campus?
- Are there any upcoming local events (walks, registration events, etc.) that you want to participate in with our OPO?
Typical Ways OPOs Support SODA Chapters and Events
- Providing volunteer training
- Helping to identify speakers for on-campus events
- Encouraging students to participate in local speaking opportunities and events
- Providing advice and asking thoughtful questions
- Sharing promotional materials for the OPO/Donate Life America
