SODA 101

Idea	Details	Time Frame
Information Session	Prepare a PowerPoint presentation to introduce your SODA efforts & discuss why students should consider joining SODA. (Check out our pre-made, customizable https://www.notion.so/Templates-for-Social-Media-Posts-Flyers-and-Presentations-47437cfe62e941a38fa1ab168ffece1c)💡 Get to know your attendees through icebreaker questions like, “Why are you interested in being a part of SODA?” and “What does organ donation mean to you?”	1 hour or less
Organ Donation Training	Your local Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) should be able to provide organ donation training. 👩‍🏫 Training ensures that you can properly educate other students about organ donation & successfully register them as organ donors. If you have trouble setting up this training, please email mailto:[email protected] for assistance.	1 hour or more
Activities Fair	Sign up to participate in your school activity’s fair. 🤔 Attract students to your table by asking questions like, “Are you familiar with organ donation?” and “Are you interested in saving lives?”. Get their email address or phone number and follow-up immediately after the event.	Several hours

Snack with SODA

Pizza and Perspectives	Hear from an interesting guest speaker and participate in a Q&A or discussion session.🍕 Your local Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) can be a great resource for finding guest speakers!	10 minutes for arriving and socializing, 30 minutes for presentation, 20 minutes for discussion & Q&A session.
Movie Night	Watch a movie/documentary about organ donation. 🍿 We highly recommend the movie https://www.netflix.com/title/81435805 (1 hour 40 minutes), https://vimeo.com/580953199 (40 minutes), and the documentary https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?v=179330460348042&ref=watch_permalink (15 minutes).	Depends on the movie!

Interactive Events

Idea	Details	Time Frame
Photo Campaign	In a populated area, have students fill in the blank on a whiteboard or poster board. Example prompts include “I support organ donation because…”, “Organ donation means…”, “I am a registered organ donor because…”. 📸 Post the pictures on your social media and tag the involved students.	1 hour or more
Finger Painting	Write out myths, misunderstandings, & facts about organ donation. Use colorful stamp pads and ask people to use their fingers to paint the statements they think are true with one color and false with another color. After they stamp, tell them what is true/false. 🤳Take pictures and post them on social media.	1 hour or more
Raffle and Board Games	Attract students to your event by having a raffle or board game available to those interested in learning about organ donation and SODA.

Better Together

Idea	Details	Time Frame
Class Lecture	Ask permission from your teacher to give a quick presentation promoting SODA and organ donation before, during, or after class-time.
🧬 Pro Tip: try choosing a class that is science or health related.	5 - 15 minutes
Volunteer Events	Contact your local Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) or National Kidney Foundation (NKF) to learn about volunteer opportunities. 📣 Advertise the event on your campus & wear SODA merch!	1 hour or more
Blood Drive	Partner with a local blood drive to promote SODA and organ donation.
🩸 Share donation-related information with blood drive participants and provide them with take-home pamphlets, flyers, and other handouts.	Several hours

Time	To-Do
A few months before the event	• Identify a topic and format for your event and determine the target audience.
• Inform your Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) of the event.
• Contact potential guest speakers and provide suggested dates and times.
• Reserve a space if needed. (Remember, a small packed room is better than a large empty one!)
• Check your school calendar to avoid scheduling conflicts with exams, sporting events, etc.
• Reach out to other organizations and ask if they would like to co-host the event.
A few weeks before the event	• Determine what food to serve, such as cookies, ice cream, or pizza.
• Plan marketing strategies to get students interested in attending the event.
• Encourage campus organizations and student leaders to share the event.
A week before the event	• Make class announcements, post flyers on campus, and share the event on social media.
• Encourage other organizations to promote your event through social media or email.
• Encourage the Leadership Team to post about and share the event
• Prepare discussion questions for the event.

Day of the event	• Arrive 15-30 minutes early to set up.
• Have fun and take pictures!
• Post on your chapter's social media accounts.
After the event	• Use the event’s sign-in sheet and reach out to students who may be interested in getting further involved with SODA.
